Stories of triumph: Juan's GRIT Journey
Juan Coyote, a 35-year-old from Alamosa, Colorado, exemplifies true grit. Growing up in a traditional Mexican family, he frequently moved and faced the expectation to provide for his family. Despite being told he shouldn't pursue anything better for himself because it would be too hard and he wasn't smart enough, Juan found strength within himself and pursued his dream of becoming a counselor.
By applying the four-step grit process—reflecting, resetting, refocusing, and reengaging—he overcame significant obstacles and achieved his master's degree in counseling.
This accomplishment proved to him that he is capable of much more than he ever imagined. Now, Juan aims to work with the community and build his counseling business. Juan's story is one of enduring challenges, continuous improvement, and resilience.
